How to Apply for University Admission in Pakistan: Step by Step

Applying to universities in Pakistan can feel chaotic — different portals, different tests, different deadlines. This is a simple, repeatable checklist you can follow for any university so nothing slips through the cracks.

1. Build your shortlist early

Before applications open, know roughly where you stand. Enter your marks into the Meritly matching engine to get a realistic list of programs you qualify for, then split it into reach, match and safe options.

2. Sort your documents

  • Matric and FSc (or A-Level) mark sheets and certificates
  • CNIC or B-Form, and domicile / PRC where required
  • IBCC equivalence (for O/A-Level students)
  • Passport-size photos and any entry-test result cards

3. Register for entry tests

Many universities require a test — NUST's NET, UET's ECAT, MDCAT for medicine, NTS/NAT for several others, or a university's own test. Register on time; missing a test usually means missing that university for the whole cycle.

4. Submit applications before deadlines

Apply on each university's official admission portal, pay the application fee via the generated challan, and double-check your program choices and preference order. Save confirmation numbers.

5. Track merit lists and respond fast

Universities publish multiple merit lists. If you're selected, you usually have a short window to confirm and deposit fees — miss it and your seat goes to the next candidate. Watch the portals closely during admission season.

6. Don't forget scholarships

Apply for financial aid in parallel — see the scholarship checker and our guides on HEC, Ehsaas and PEEF.

Deadlines and processes differ by university and change each year — always confirm the specifics on the official admissions page.
