MBBS Admission in Pakistan: Complete 2026 Guide
9 min read · Updated for 2026
Getting into a public MBBS program in Pakistan is one of the most competitive things a student can attempt. This guide walks through the whole journey — eligibility, the MDCAT, the merit formula and the selection process — so you can plan realistically.
Step 1 — Check eligibility
You generally need FSc Pre-Medical (or equivalent) with at least 60% to be eligible. A-Level students must get an IBCC equivalence first. This is only the floor to compete — it does not guarantee a seat.
Step 2 — Sit the MDCAT
The MDCAT is the national medical entry test. It is the single biggest factor in your merit, so it deserves the bulk of your preparation time. See our MDCAT syllabus breakdown for subject weightages.
Step 3 — Understand the merit formula
Most public MBBS admissions use the PMDC-guided weighting:
- 50% — MDCAT
- 40% — FSc
- 10% — Matric
Full worked examples are in how aggregate is calculated for medical colleges.
Step 4 — Apply through the right authority
Public colleges in each province admit through a centralised process (for example UHS in Punjab, and provincial admission boards elsewhere). You submit one application and choices, and seats are allocated on merit and your preferences.
Step 5 — Plan your college list
Closing merit at popular government colleges frequently sits in the high 80s to low 90s and changes every year. Build a list with a mix of reach, match and safe options.
