Lowest Merit Engineering Universities in Pakistan
6 min read · Updated for 2026
Not every strong engineer started with a 90% aggregate. If your marks are modest, the smart move is to apply widely to universities where your number is genuinely competitive — rather than chasing only the top names and risking a gap year.
Where lower aggregates are realistic
Public engineering universities outside the very top tier, and regional/newer campuses, typically close at lower merit than flagship institutions. Worth shortlisting:
- UET Taxila and other UET satellite campuses
- Mehran University (MUET), Jamshoro
- QUEST Nawabshah
- UET Peshawar and KP regional options
- Engineering Technology (B.Tech / BSc Eng. Tech) programs, which often have lower entry bars than full B.E./BSc Engineering
Tactics that actually help
- Apply to many programs. Merit lists move as higher scorers take other seats — second and third lists routinely admit lower aggregates.
- Consider less-hyped disciplines. Civil, Mechanical and Metallurgy often close lower than Electrical, Software or CS.
- Look at self-finance seats where available, if affordable.
- Don't ignore entry tests. At test-heavy universities a strong test can lift a weak academic record.
Find your realistic list
The fastest way to build a sensible shortlist is to enter your marks into the Meritly matching engine — it ranks every program you qualify for, so you can focus your applications where you actually have a chance. Closing-merit figures are approximate and change yearly; always confirm on the official university site before deciding.
