FAST-NUCES is one of the most sought-after computing universities in Pakistan, and its admission is built around its own NU entry test. If FAST is on your list, here's exactly how the merit works and what to expect.
The FAST merit formula
- 50% — NU entry test
- 40% — FSc / HSSC
- 10% — Matric
With half the weight on the test, FAST sits between FSc-heavy universities and test-heavy ones like NUST (75% test). A solid test score is essential, but strong FSc marks still carry real value.
What the NU test covers
The entry test is typically MCQ-based and covers areas such as Mathematics, Analytical/IQ reasoning and English, with the exact pattern depending on your chosen program. Check the official FAST sample paper for the current structure.
How competitive is it?
FAST's Computer Science and Software Engineering programs are among the most competitive computing seats in the country, and closing merit is high — especially at the Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi campuses. Eligibility (a minimum FSc percentage with Maths) is just the entry ticket, not a guarantee.
Worked example
With 85% FSc, 90% Matric and 70% on the NU test:
(70 × 0.50) + (85 × 0.40) + (90 × 0.10) = 35 + 34 + 9 = 78%.
